The 2030 Regional Transportation Plan

October 13, 2004

To the Citizens of the Pikes Peak Region:

The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments is pleased to present the 2030 Regional Transportation Plan.  The Plan is a tool to guide the development of the multi-modal transportation system in the Colorado Springs metropolitan area over the next 26 years.  It represents a multi-year effort to identify and prioritize transportation improvements through the integration of a highly technical methodology with extensive opportunities for public participation.  For your convenience, the document can be viewed on PPACG’s website at www.ppacg.org.

The Plan is designed to facilitate the mobility and accessibility needs of people, goods, and services throughout the region while providing a safe, secure, efficient, and balanced multi-modal system that supports community development and is compatible with the natural and human environments.  The Plan is fiscally constrained and assures maintenance of national ambient air quality standards.

The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) is the federally designated metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Colorado Spring metropolitan area.  Formed in 1967 under Colorado laws regarding regional planning and intergovernmental contracting, PPACG is not a unit of local government.  Rather, it is an organization of local governments whose purpose is to identify regional problems and opportunities, develop solutions, and make recommendations on region-wide strategies to deal with those issues.  PPACG’s Board of Directors, which is composed of 19 members from participating local and county governments, directs the MPO.

The Plan development process was a success due to the active participation by the public, PPACG’s technical and citizen committees and the elected officials throughout the Pikes Peak Region.  As the 2030 Regional Transportation Plan is implemented over the next several years, we look forward to your continued participation to ensure the transportation system in our region reflects your ideals.

Again, thank you to all who have provided so much of your time to complete this important effort in the Pikes Peak Region.

Sincerely,
LeNore Ralston
