PPACG Board of Directors Releases Proposed Transportation Plan Goals and Performance Measures for Public Review

Colorado Springs, CO–On December 8, 2010, the Board of Directors of the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) released the proposed goals and performance measures for the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) Update for public review and comment. The goals and performance measures complete the planning framework that will guide PPACG staff and advisory committees in developing the short- and long-range transportation strategies for the Pikes Peak urbanized area. The goals and performance measures define the desired outcome of investments and are used to help evaluate transportation system alternatives for inclusion in the 2035 RTP Update. “These goals and performance measures reflect our possible aspirations as a region,” explained Board Chairman Wayne Williams, “and will be revised based on public input and funding constraints.”

PPACG hosted four public workshops to develop goals and performance measures. Specific invitations were given to transportation, housing, economic development, and environmental agencies to increase collaborative development of these goals and performance measures and improve delivery of transportation. Each workshop focused on one of the following broad topics: Transportation Goals, Community/Social Goals, Economic Goals, and Environmental Goals.

PPACG approved the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan (Moving Forward) in the spring of 2008. As a state-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), PPACG is required by federal law to update its regional transportation plan every four years. Over the coming months, the Moving Forward Update planning process will describe transportation policies and prioritize transportation investments to be implemented in the Colorado Springs metro area between 2011 and 2035.

PPACG is a voluntary association of 16 municipal and county governments serving a regional community. Since 1967, PPACG has worked to ensure that local governments have a forum to discuss issues that cross their political boundaries, identify shared opportunities and challenges, and develop collaborative strategies for action.
