In September 2010, PPACG received a Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) grant of $310,000 from the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies to conduct a pilot project testing their collaborative assessment methodology and integrating capacity-building tools into the regional transportation plan and programming process. The project is for 16 months from September 2010 – December 2011.
This grant recognizes the increased need for collaboration and the integration of systems, as identified in the transportation vision of the 2007 Moving Forward Update, to “create a sustainable multi-modal transportation system that meets regional mobility and accessibility expectations as essential element of the Pikes Peak area’s quality of life.” The desired outcome of this process is to address complex problems and dilemmas as early in the planning process as possible.
