19.1SPP6449.020Route 12 Phase 4 EnhancementsColorado SpringsThis project will improve the level of safety for pedestrians, bicylists and the driving public. The construction will include new sidewalks and segments of curb and cutter where missing. It will install ADA compliant facilities to include widening or reconstructioing sidewalks where necessary and providing handicapped accessible pedestrian ramps and access to transit stops along the coridor. It will install transit waiting pads where missing and provide necessary signage and pavement markings where missing or in poor condition and stripped, marked and signed bicycle lanes through corridor. Due to the lack of pedestrian facilities many transit users currently walk on the street to avoid walking in mud and weeds where there are no sidewalks. Since there are currently few bus stop pads, ramps or idewalks in many areas along this portion of the route, individuals in wheelchairs must us the street to access the bus top or wain in the street for the bus. This project will in creas the safety of transit users accessing employemnt, education and shopping and other service.
