PPACG is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Colorado Springs metropolitan area. As the MPO, PPACG is required to maintain a regional transportation plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). These documents lay out what transportation projects will be programmed in the region.
The RTP provides the foundation for all other aspects of transportation decision-making by establishing the vision and goals for transportation within a region and identifying strategies and project concepts for implementation. Long-range transportation planning is the only part of decision-making where the transportation system as a whole, including all modes and all roads, is analyzed and evaluated comprehensively. It is the starting point for ensuring that the region’s goals and transportation improvements are coordinated. It also establishes an opportunity for decision-makers to understand the broader social, economic, and environmental implications of their transportation and land use decisions.
The Moving Forward Update is the name of our regional transportation plan and transportation improvement program. The PPACG Board of Directors adopted the Moving Forward Update in January 2012.
