PPACG Senior Insurance Assistance is the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) office which serves El Paso, Park and Teller counties. We also provide insurance counseling and education to Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Lake and Las Animas counties via telephone.

We provide information to individuals and through employers Employer Information

Our trained staff and volunteers provide educational classes and presentations around the Pikes Peak region, in order to help you better understand Medicare and your health insurance benefits. Our goal is to help you become a more informed insurance consumer by knowing what benefits options are available to you and enabling you to make more informed health insurance choices.

We are also available to review your current insurance coverage, ensuring you receive the coverage that works best for your personal situation.

Our staff and volunteers are trained in all types of insurance, including: Medicare supplements, employer group health plans and Medicare Advantage plans, as well as Medicare Part D pharmacy benefits. Our counselors are also available to help with your annual review and make any insurance plan changes you require.

We can also guide you through the Long-Term Care Insurance process and provide assistance in completing applications and other forms for most Medicaid programs for those ages 60 and over, or on Medicare due to disability.

For Employers/Employees

As employees begin reaching Medicare or Social Security age many are still in the workforce.   Employers are looking for a way to help provide the benefit of guidance for employees without increasing the cost of doing business.   The PPACG/Area Agency on Aging SHIP is available to provide employers with the much needed current information regarding Medicare enrollment,  coordination of benefits,  and other employee insurance options.  These services are set up to work either with the Human Resources Department or with individual employees.   Professionally trained Medicare Insurance Counselors work together with you to design a program that best fits you and your employee needs.

 

Retirement education classes are offered at no cost for the following:

  • Medicare 101 –  Understanding the basics:  A, B, C, D, Medigap/Supplemental  Insurance Options, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Employer Group Plans (Please note that PPACG /Area Agency on Aging does not sell or endorse any insurance, but serves as insurance advocates for those over 60 and those on Medicare.)
  • Social Security 101 – AAA partners with SSA to provide current, up to date information regarding Social Security benefits as they relate to retirement.  Learn the basics and how to set up your own account on line to access information about your personal retirement benefits.  Learn how working and age affect  the retirement benefit.
  • Retirement Series (4-Part) to include Medicare, Social Security, Estate Planning, and the nonfinancial challenges of retirement such as finding new purpose and identity away from work,  and building new social networks.     Successful retirement means making a number of important decisions and planning ahead for financial, medical, legal and other retirement options.   PPACG Area Agency on Aging and Ent Credit Union partner to offer a series of four classes to provide the knowledge and tools soon-to-be retirees need.   Adults 55-65 or those planning to retire in the next five years are encouraged to attend.
