The PPACG Area Agency on Aging (PPAAA), the Innovations in Aging Collaborative and the Age Friendly Colorado Springs effort are proud to announce the release of the new Age Friendly Pikes Peak Portal www.agefriendlypikespeak.org. The Age Friendly Pikes Peak portal provides resources for older adults, caregivers and family members to age in place. The resources here are primarily nonprofit and civic organizations.
Colorado Springs joined the Network of Age Friendly States and Communities (a program of AARP and World Health Organization) in March of 2016. Since then, organizations throughout the region have worked to implement the Age Friendly Colorado Springs Action Plan, working to create a community that enables people of all ages to actively participate in community activities and treats everyone with respect, regardless of their age. It is a place that makes it easy for older people to stay connected to people that are important to them. An Age-Friendly city helps people stay healthy and active even at the oldest ages and provides appropriate support to those who can no longer look after themselves.
In the Age Friendly Colorado Springs Action Plan we discovered that our community had a lack of centralized resources that could be easily found and set a goal to create a senior information portal. We partnered with Elevated Insights to hold focus groups and suggest best practices to build an effective portal to reach the greatest numbers of older adults. This portal took a great deal of work across the last four years done by a broad coalition working to ensure that we met the needs of older adults throughout the region.
Today we are proud and excited to announce the launch of the Age Friendly Pikes Peak Portal and we hope that this resource provides information and support to our community. It can be accessed at www.agefriendlypikespeak.org.
What is Age Friendly
The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities is the United States affiliate of the World Health Organization Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, an international effort launched in 2006 to help cities prepare for rapid population aging and the parallel trend of urbanization. An age-friendly world enables people of all ages to actively participate in community activities and treats everyone with respect, regardless of their age. It is a place that makes it easy for older people to stay connected to people that are important to them. And it helps people stay healthy and active even at the oldest ages and provides appropriate support to those who can no longer look after themselves.
