Federal transportation planning regulations require PPACG to develop a Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) to specify transportation planning activities that will occur within the Metropolitan Planning Area during a two year period.
The UPWP identifies activities that will occur as part of the metropolitan transportation planning process, along with other federally funded transportation planning efforts or locally funded planning efforts that could result in significant changes to the transportation system. The document includes a description of the planning work and resulting products, who will perform the work, timeframes for completing the work, the cost of the work, and the source(s) of funds.
The UPWP serves as an internal scope of work for PPACG staff, but also provides transparency to citizens and stakeholders about how federal transportation planning funds are being used by the MPO, local governments, transit agencies, and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The currently adopted version of the UPWP, covering fiscal years 2020 and 2021, as adopted by the PPACG Board of Directors on June 12, 2019. The future FY2022/2023 UPWP was adopted by the PPACG Board of Directors on June 17, 2021 and will be effective starting October 1, 2021.
